Seems the majority of people voting in th epoll agree to bring it up to date.

Based on that logic, does anyone prefer the newer X-Type bumpers on this board?

Is a mid 1970's Ford Mustang superior to a 1964 Ford Mustang?

Car companies must always improve the looks of their cars over time right?:

Point is, design updates from car manufacturers are not infallible. Granted, US automakers are easiest to pick on, but the same happens in Europe as well (just not as often).

Also, do what you want and what you feel you'd want to look at everyday. If the new grille does it for you, it's cheap at $300 and you can always reverse the mod and sell the grille to someone on here who voted to do it.

aww i remerb when manefresh was part of the forum, ubitl he sold that beauty, but you have to consider the perks, what are the benefitts, shouldu have a newer look to you car, at a extra cost or a simple, clean look to it by what you got. I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Plus, that way its originla.

Me i'd probaly go with the blacked out newer one, just he badge in its original color, and thow the arden tunning badge on it. That will make it look badasss

They both look pretty good but I like the blackout grille a little more. Great looking Jag either way. Best wishes VMV

Very true
I paid under £160 for mine on the X Type and got virtually all of that back when I sold the car as I put the old grille back on when trading it in and sold the grille privately....people were queueing up to buy it...loads of PMs!!
Have new XJ grille on my XJ now (dealer price over GB£900!! thats probably over $1400!!!) so bought a brand new one from ebay for £145 which came painted with badge.
When I sell my car the old grille will be going back on which is sitting boxed in the garage and I'll sell the new one so wont have cost anything in the long run to have.

Took the plunge and ordered the new style grill. Still waiting to see if the dealer can get it here in the US though since officially the new style never made it to these shores. Waiting for a call today to confirm. I know other places online sell it, but from past experience, it's original or nothing.

Dennis, I got the body kit through a dealer for a good price (I got lucky and great-full). The entire thing runs around $1900, but I paid somewhere around $1200, plus an additional $650 to paint. This excluded the lid spoiler though, as I already had that.

Ive just noticed, in the very first picture, where it has been mirrored, the clouds in the centre look like a smiley face..

Looks like the dealer will be able to get me the new style grill. So, the old one is officially for sale. It's what you see in the pic.

I've just put a post on the classifieds for it and other parts.

How much did it cost to paint the surrounding part of the new style grill?

Mine was GB£20 but they used top of the range lacquer instead of the cheaper lacquer by mistake at our bodyshop and matched the paint using paint colour chips and then by eye for the exact alt (variation of the shade) of the paint code rather than just going off the paint code

I like the new grill, in chrome (and I have been thinking of doing just that.) I have a black '03 sport with the aftermarket chrome mesh grill (upper only), which I do like alot. But I have to say I like the new grill a little better because the openings in the mesh are a bit larger, and because there's no middle post like on the factory grille, so the whole thing just looks sportier and meaner. I also like the painted outer edge with only the mesh in chrome. I am not partiucularly fond of the entirely blacked-out look - its a bit darth-vaderish for my taste.

I also like the new Growler badge - but it is a bit big - and I can't decide whether I think it looks redundant - they added the growler badge when they eliminated the leaper from the hood - and I dont know that having them both looks "right."

If I do get the new grille, I would leave it chrome. Anyone know if you can take the badge off? its probably just bolted through the mesh - but has anyone tried doing that?

Mina Galleries has the new grille for $285 (www.minagallery.com).

There is a circular place on the new grille is specifically for the badge so you need the badge or its a blank chrome flat circular base with a missing badge.
The chrome mesh on the new grille is actually pre-painted plastic.

Default Eeeeewwww... Plastic?

Well that sucks. I think I'll be sticking with my aftermarket real stainless steel grill then.

good choice! the new one looks much nicer, but do not paint the chrome, that would ruin the look.
