New Tcase at 28k miles...
I tried changing my Tcase fluid a couple weeks ago. When I opened the drain there was very little fluid and what did come out was nearly black. There were metal shavings on the drain plug as well. Using a fluid pump and hose topipe fitting I pumped about 3/4 of a quart in and then quickly exchanged the fitting for the plug. During the exchangeobviously some fluid ran out, butbased on what I collected on the floor I actually came very close to the 18.6 ounces required for a refill. It was a crude method, but it worked (somewhat)...
Almost immediately I started leaking fluid out the passenger side axle seal. This of course hit the hot exhaust and smelled lovely. At this point I figured I would be paying for a new Tcase as it was obvious I had changed the fluid. Took it to Jag and they said there was actually a leak between the Transmission and Tcase as well as a bad axle seal. One day later I have a brand new Tcase free of charge! AND they did a complete fluid swap on the transmission as well.
Apparently, the previous owner had a small leak that they just never noticed. When the fluid got low enough it stopped leaking. Then with my fluid change I "uncovered" the problem. Luckily, the dealer never even asked questions. So all in all I am pretty happy with my brand new Tcase and new transmission fluid! Actually, if I had not opened the case now I surely would have ended up paying for a Tcase (and possible transmission) when I got outside of warranty.
