Newbie with bunch of questions?
New to the forums and Jaguar cars and I have a couple of parts I need to replace so I need some links and advice. A little backstory on my Jag:
2002 X-Type 3.0, 48,000 miles on the OD, sunroof, tape deck with cd player controls.
Love the car, can't keep the wifey out of it but there are a couple of cosmetic things I'd like to fix.
1. Shift knob has 2 cracks, but is still smooth to the touch. Best place and price to get a replacement other than the dealer?
2. Front bumper area under the lights there appears to be 2 caps. One is missing with a white fastener exposed. what is the purpose of the caps and how do you replace them?
3. CD changer, Dealer advised me that it is already prewired and I just needed to add either the Alpine unit or the OEM one. Which one is better and what's a good place to purchase them. After inspecting the trunk and glovebox I don't see any connectors, do you have to buy any additional parts?
4. Cabin air smells really stale wheres the filter located?
and last but not least sometimes I smell burning oil but I dont see any leaks, what could this be coming from.

Hey catdaddy.......re the gear knob, try googling it or Ebay is always a good source too.
Cabin air smell probably means that the previous owner has had the a/c turned off too long......This leads to bacteria and funghi build up and you'll probably find that you will crack that problem with an a/c flush.

Not sure about the gear knob. my chrome lift ring for reverse is ratty...
the bumper things are for the headlamp washers.. I think the dealer may replace them on warranty. there were some years where the covers flew off easily.
OEM changer is already an Alpine. I am not sure if an after market place can make one work, they should be cheaper if they can make it work. Not sure if either one can play MP3s but worth asking.
the cabinfilter is under the black cover at the base of the windshield. You can undo the clips at the front edge under the hood and lift it up enought to get the filter out. It is an easy job to replace it.
if the smell is from a musty AC... that is a biggger pain to resolve I would go to the dealer and cry a little...

Bojangles hit on the head with the A/C. Go back to the dealer and complain.
Is the smell only when you have the A/C on or even with hot air.
but i dont think it because of the cabin filter, and an A/C flush will help but its probably moldy. Maybe the car was onanother dealers lot before this dealer bought it?
For the shifter check Ebay, the only problem with new shifters are that they wont be the same color as your dash cause the sun has changed the original color. My shifter is way lighter than the wood, its noticable but i dont care that much, ITS A SHIFTER.
For the Cd changer there should be an area in the truck on the drivers side that opens up where the CD changer and wiring should go.
let me know how the A/C thing goes with the dealer.

aquil I think i'm going to go with this shifter from jagaurxp.com, it's a little pricey ($149) but man is it pretty
I don't want to rice it up to much but i'd like to upgrade the wheels from the stock 16" to 18"s and thought about these I found on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...449&rd=1,1
After only spending 12K for this awesome car I feel like it was a steal considering I paid 15K for a used 2003 altima with similar options a couple of months ago.
