Hi Everyone

My '03 X-Type has a "Check Engine" light on, and my OBD reader says 'P0455' Evaporative Emission Leak Detected gross flow/no flow.

Any suggestions where to start looking? I erased the code, but it came back a couple of hours of driving later.

Robert, normally this code is associated with either a failed EGR valve or the differential pressure sensor for the valve (what tells the computer the EGR valve is open) has failed. most of the times it is the EGR valve itself. But, I have seen a few instances on trucks where the problem was the D/P sensor.

I know this reply is not very timely, but just solved my problem when all these codes showed up. After trying to find all the EVAP components, I tried just listening under hood with engine running and immediately after engine shut down. (Climate control switched off). I heard hissing from passenger side (US - vehicle right side) and discovered it was one of the control valve seals leaking (plastic control valves at end of upper intake manifold passenger side). Replaced both o-ring seals and solved problem.

One additional note, disconnecting battery did not clear my CEL codes. Possibly did not keep battery disconnected long enough. I thought about 5 minutes would do it, but CEL would not clear. Ended up borrowing code reader to clear codes.

I am receiving this "P0455" message as well. I recently just had the valve cover gaskets replaced, as well as the spark plugs by these mechanics down the road. While repairing the gaskets and cleaning up the oil, could it be possible that the mechanics failed to re-assemble the engine properly or is this an entirely different issue altogether? I don't want to keep handing these people money if they are sub-par.
