Default p0430 bad cat questions

As title states I have p0430 code and I don't know too much about catalytic converters. I read it may be possible to refurb them with a chemical combo bath but I can't find too many things on that so maybe I'm wrong. Just asking basically what best plan of action is and is this one the easier of the two to replace or not. Also if the code could be something else and what route should I take first. Thanks for any comments

vegang, what you are talking about doing is pulling the cat from the car and immersing it in a solution of citric acid. This will take a bit and you will probably need to do soak for a few hours, rinse, soak, rinse, etc till you don't think you are really getting anything more. Then you have to put it all back together. Because you did this to one, it is highly recommended that you do it to the other as cleaning one and not the other can potentially cause an imbalance in power production and can lead to other issues with the engine. Yes, doing this cleaning is a viable option. From what I have read here, it is about a 50/50 shot as to whether it will work for you or not.

I have read that the downstream sensors are a bit too sensitive. You can buy a screw on adapter to move the sensor out of the exhaust stream a bit and stop the error code. Amazon has them $10 ish.

Worked for me.

Thank you for the clarification. Wasn't sure if it was bogus or not.

Just recently read about the spacers. Might as well replace the rear sensor as well. Did you happen to have excess exhaust smell/ sometimes smoke also? Happened to me once however the smell is often for me.

No, I had no smoke or smell before or after. I believe this only works on the downstream sensor.
