Default Passenger heated seat partially heats up

Hey Guys/Gals

As you all know on the driver seat on the X-type, the end of the seat and lower back heat up pretty quick imo.

My problem is the passenger seat heats up only where the furthest part (near the inside knees). Nothing on the lower back or by where your *** sits. Found this out after I let the girl drive the car.

Also found the passenger side to feel a bit smaller and a tigher space, might just be me never sitting on that side. Any of you agree?

Anyways, Is this how the heated seats work or did something go rancid?

Thanks ahead of time.

fabfive, I think you are experiencing broken heating elements. About the only way that you are going to be able to prove this is to remove the seat from the car and then peel the skin off of the seat. You will see a cloth liner under the leather that will have a thin metal band running through it. If you see some black spots in the fabric, odds are that is where your problem is. You can verify this by taking a multimeter and touching the probes to the metal band about an inch back from the dark spots, if you are getting over 2 VDC drop, then you have a broken band. You need to check each dark spot you see as you may have broken the band in more than one spot.

As for the repair, you have 2 options. You can look around and find a new heating element for in the seat and then replace the whole thing. Option 2 is to rip the material around the dark spot and then using a soldering iron, re-bridge the spot in the metal band that has broken. Use of a small piece of wiring to help get up and over the gap can be helpful. Just keep the wire as short as possible as you will be bypassing part of the heating element.

Thanks Chris,

I will take out the seat, then take it apart when it becomes warmer here in Chicago.

Another X type Project awaits!
