Default problem with passenger side HID and other related questions

Passenger HID light stopped working today, I went to swap it with the driver side to check it was the bulb, but looked pretty complicated in the dark at the side of the road, so before i recheck tomorrow can anyone let me know if
the driver side bulb is easy to get to?.
Also do the ballasts that they attach to tend to die?
Also....geez...lol i found the headlight unit was very loose, and when i put my high beams on they pointed at the sky!.
I see many DS2 HIDS on sale at ebay in the $15 range, much better than the $100 that advance wants.
I don't see any original ballasts on ebay to get an idea of price, anyone know the price of the ballasts?
I see 6000K, 8000K 10,000K, can anyone help with explaining the different color ranges between these bulbs?
Thanks muchly!

iownme, I will start with the bad news first. The headlight with the looseness means that the internals are broken and you have to either buy a new headlight assembly or attempt a repair of the headlight assembly (remove from the car, epoxy the broken parts together and then come up with a better reinforcement, can also find the new parts for sale and replace the support posts). The driver's side bulb isn't hard to get to. About as difficult as the passenger side. As long as you have small hands, normally not a problem. Just don't pull on the internals of the headlight too hard as this will tend to break the internals.

As for the E-bay D2S bulbs, we have had mixed luck with how long the bulbs last. Some last forever, some last minutes. So, it is a gamble as to what you are going to get. Atleast if you buy local, if they fail shortly thereafter, you have someone that you can talk face to face with.

As for the color of HID bulbs, in short, 4300K bulbs are going to be mostly white, but have a yellow tint to them. 5000K bulbs will be snow white. 6000K bulbs will be mostly white with a blue halo to it. The 8000K bulbs will have a blue tint to them. The 10000K bulbs are going to be very blue, bordering on purple. Keep in mind that if you are wanting maximum light, then 4300K bulbs are the ones to go with. Every step away from 4300K you take (ie, the 6000K bulbs are 2 steps (4300K to 5000K, 5000K to 6000K), so, the light will be down to 2900 lumen (vice the 3300 lumen of a 4300K bulb).

Any more questions about the bulbs, let me know. i have some training in HID bulbs and electronics in general.

Thermo...I wish i had seen your post earlier, i just bought 8K bulbs as the sellers ad suggested that number for maximum brightness without getting into the blue color ranges.
I just want the maximum light to see deer jumping out at me at night :+)
I found the driver side easy to remove, but that housing is also loose.

I have no idea how to find the parts to fix them, so if your able to, can you provide a link?....i'd most likely try to fix them. Are there any good instructions that you know of?

On a side note, while bending a hose to get to the driver side bulb, a shot of coolant blew out of a tiny hole in that hose from the underside. it only leaked when i bent the hose down...weird to have a non leaking leak :+) so i cut the broken piece of hose out then reconnected the hose...all better now....but what a cool way to find a future problem

iownme, I am not finding a link to the parts. Hopefully one of the other members can lead you in the right direction. I need a set of them too. So, if I find them, I will pass on the information to you.
