Default quality free code reads?

Check engine light on . Does auto zone read codes for x types? if so how accurate were their readings. Or any other referrals for national company who reads for free? Also where do they plug the computer in on x type at auto zone.

AutoZone's readers do indeed read codes. The plug is located under the dash in the driver's side footwell.

They've always managed to read the codes on my X-Type, but that's about it. The employees usually have no knowledge of Jags so they can't really help you out as far as diagnosing the causes for the codes. That's where you'll have to do your own homework and research the codes.

get them to print the actual codes (or copy them down) and post up here on the forum and you'll get tons of help!

THey won't be able to read chassis codes but that's not likely to be lighting your CEL - only abs/trac etc. Powertrain codes excite the CEL and they should be good for those - even if they tell you "what it means" get the numbers and check back here for verification.
