Default Rear Door Handle Sticking

There's already info out there on methods to un-stick X-Type door handles but I took a different route.

The hinge shaft rotates with the handle and turns through the ears holding the handle to the base. The issue is the shaft rusts, takes up more space in the ear bores then it binds. If you're lucky, you can work penetrating oil into the areas next to where the shaft rotates to free it up. No matter how much I poked, prodded and worked the handle as I doused it in penetrating oil, it didn't free up at all. I even drilled small holes in between where the stationary ears and the rotating ears on the handle meet to get oil down to the shaft. No go.

So, I drilled 2 very small holes through the outer ears down to the center of the hinge shaft. I drilled opposite of where the shaft is loaded when it's pulled. I blew the debris out with brake clean then doused the holes in penetrating oil. It freed up almost immediately. I blew some white lithium in those holes after that, worked it around a ton then slapped grease over the holes and all over the hinge to finish it off.

Hopefully this helps those having trouble with their sticking handles.
