Red Battery Light-weird issue
I'm getting a red battery light, I checked the voltage and it's 11.7-11.9 at idle. Speed rpm's and it the light shuts off and I am 12.6 or so. Today started up the car and I'm getting 16.7 volts. Drove the car and I see the red battery light. Turn off the car and check the battery voltage 14.1. I'm guessing bad voltage reg in the alternator but the voltage on the battery seems high.Thoughts?

Mr, based on your voltage going all over the place, I would be looking at either the wiring between the ECU and the alternator for a potential fault (either being grounded or shorting to 12 VDC). That would cause what you are seeing. Specifically you would want to be looking at the plug on the alternator at pins 1 and 2. Otherwise, it could be the voltage regulator in the alternator. This is where I would be getting the alternator tested before replacing it as the alternator in your car is a pretty stout unit and does not fail all that often.

Thanks Chris you are always a wealth of info.
Mr. keep an eye out for concerts going on down near you. I know VA Beach used to do a lot of concerts there on the beach for free or the Navy will use their concert field and do a show there. It will give me a reason to get down that way and then we can meet up and enjoy a concert and get to talk about cars for a bit. If you are curious about what music I listen to, if it has a beat, I will enjoy it. May have to even look at VetTix and see if there is something there that may be of interest. Granted, I always loved doing the concerts there on the beach.
