Hey guys - So I have to put fixing the new car up on hold to fix the body of it. I'm looking for a little help. My old boss backed into the side of the car by accident and smashed in the drivers door. I'm thinking it might be easiest to find one of a used car, but i have no idea how hard it would be to change out the door lock cylinders and mount up the new door. Is there anyone out there that could give me some insight to this. I worked with him for 10 years.. many of them doing body work, so the work isnt new, just the type of car.

 

joe, if you can do body work, then hanging the door should not be a problem. Hopefully the door handle is not broken as that will make for changing the door locks over pretty easy. Probably the hardest part will be pulling the wiring harness out and putting it in the new door. Hanging the door is not any different than doing any other vehicle. The X-Type is a Ford Mondeo which shares a lot of stuff with the Ford Focus/Volvo S40.

The door handle as far as I can tell is not broken. The door all works fine, and we were thinking of fixing it, however, if a replacement is available, especially in the same color blue, I was thinking it might be easier. Will the wiring harness have to be pulled from the door or is there a connector for it inside the door/car door jam? Thanks for the response!
