My X-Type 3.0L SE 4dr (June 2001) came with a tape cassette instead of a CD player (at the front). Is it an easy job to replace the tape cassette with the Jaguar CD player (if I buy a Jaguar CD player on eBay)?


Is it easy to obtain the unlocking code for the CD player from Jaguar (if the one I buy does not come with the unlocking code), please?

The CD player is a fairly old device, and it only supports traditional audio CDs (the sort where you can have max. 60-70 minutes of music) so you can't use data CDs (on which you could drop 100 mp3 files with no regard to their total duration).

If I were you, I'd give serious consideration to doing this mod instead:
How-To: DIY headunit hack for AUX-IN (on tape deck).

Basically, you solder a few leads into the cassette player, and then you have a direct line-in available with CD-level quality that you can plug any sort of sound source into. I for example have hidden an mp3 player inside the ashtray with a charger. The player starts and stops with the car, and when the ashtray lid is closed everything looks unmodified.

 

I bought a cheap & cheerful USB , MP3 transmitter . Got a memory stick with my music on , plug into lighter socket & car radio ariel picks up transmission & plays through standard radio. Bit basic, but suits me as I'm partially deaf in one ear so volume is better than quality to me ....

 

I did exactly this. Bought a used CD on eBay and it was an easy replacement. Plug and play.
I have an ACM so I had to get the CDC button activated. It's a quick affair done by my local Jag guy.
Also there was no security code. I understand that US cars don't have security codes.

 

picking up a car on Tues with a sat nav and cassette combo. I'm unsure if the nav and player are one, or if I can buy a cd player separately. Seen some with 6cd changers but have a cassette port on the dash; how does that work? I want to upgrade to a CD player, but not lose or tamper with my sat nav. Any one got any advice??

 

Just an update: I've finally managed to get a car electrician to fit the Jaguar CD player. Old went the cassette player, new came the CD player. I now have a CD player at the front... but no clock. Somehow, everything else (satnav, phone, radio etc.) works, but no more option for the clock. I will ask the car electrician to take another look at the wiring. I'm just worried that I may lose satnav in the process.

 

A further update: I've managed to find the clock! I've applied the Phone+Menu way (1971 Diag PIN). I've updated the s/w to the latest 9.03 version. As a result, I got the clock back. But now my satnav GPS thinks it's in Belgium! How do I change to UK, please? I've done a manual set up, an automatic set up... all sorts. However, the satnav map thinks it's still in Belgium. Any reasonable ideas, please? Thanks in advance!
