Reverse lights and glovebox lamp

Reverse lights and glovebox lamp
Hi all, I've been reading through the forums and found it very useful. However I have a problem of my own that I've not been able to find an answer to. All suggestions gratefully received (long as it's reasonably legal and doesn't involve lubricant!).
I have a 2002 X-Type 2.5 SE (manual). I have no reverse lights, and no glovebox light.
I've checked the fuses F82 and F97 and they're fine. Relay 17 is missing!
I borrowed the same rating relay from the horn in the engine bay (R3) and plugged that in , still no joy. I've checked the bulbs and they're fine.
I stuck a multimeter on the fuse fittings for F82 and F97 (not easy!) and I don't seem to be showing any voltage. I'm not showing any voltage on the glove box connector either.
Any thoughts before I go mad? Or even worse pay an auto-electrician?
Cheers,
Skid.

Skid, wish I had my electrical diagrams with me. I would be able to help you out. Give me until later today and I will download the JTIS off of the site. I am sure I can help you get this problem solved.
Just to ask a silly question, with the engine off and the e-brake set firmly, put the car in reverse with the windows rolled down. Now walk behind the car, close to the bumper. Do you hear the back up system beeping at you? If you do, then your problem is either 2 bad bulbs or a problem with the wiring really close to the tail lights. If it doesn't come on, then odds are you are looking at a bad tranny switch or a wiring problem between the fuse box and the switch. Now, I am going off of memory, so, I am not 100% sure, but seem to recall things this way.

Cheers Chris.
I haven't got reversing sensors, unfortunately
I did bring up the instrument cluster EOBD and towards the end there's some switch diags. Sure enough, the reverse switch doesn't register any change when I engage first gear. I'm assuming the switch is bad at this point. I've got one coming in the post in the next few days, so I'll swap it out (a massive £4 to buy!) and if that doesn't work I'll start tracing the wires back (won't that be fun!).
thanks for your help.
