Default Reversing Sensors

Hi all,

My x-type estate (2005) has an intermittent problem with the reversing sensors. Sometimes they work fine, other times they give the long fault beep. I listened to the sensors, and they are all clicking, although one does seem slightly quieter than the other three.

Is there anything to watch out for when ordering a replacement - I notice there are some different types available.

Also, is it easy on the x-type estate to get them out of the plastic trim under the bumper?

Appreciate any feedback.

Cheers
Daz

Daz, first off, there are 2 types of sensors for the rear of the car. You have ones with a straight plug on the back, then you have others that make a 90 degree bend. If you can, look at the back side of the bumper and see which one you need. But, year to year, they all used the same sensors.

As for removing. The best advice that I can give you is to get your hands on 2 small flat blade screw drivers. With the sensor still installed in the car, you will see 2 tabs holding the sensor in place. Slide a screwdriver under each tab so it will release. Then from the outside of the car, use your thumb to push the center of the sensor towards the center of the car. Trying to pull the sensor out normally ends up destroying the sensor (don't ask how I know). Then the new sensor can be installed by simply giving it a little push into the retaining ring that is left behind.

Thanks for the reply Chris. Much appreciated. I think I might change the quiet sensor. Funny how it sometimes works OK though.
Thanks again,
Daz
