Default Serpentine/belt

I did a search for this and found nothing. Has anybody done this tuneup themselves. What all has to be removed?

I’ve done it. You work through the passenger wheel well after you remove the shields. Finicky, but not too hard. Make sure new belt is properly on pulley splines.

I would get the ratcheting belt tensioning tool. I had non-ratcheting type and ended up hacking the tool(cut, re-weld) to get it to work. Otherwise straght forward through front right wheel well. I would have the belt diagram from service manual available or make good sketch before you take off the original.

My belt started defraying, not broke, and the frayed part took out the crankshaft position sensor. It put the car in limp mode and had to limp home at 15mph. It's good to replace the serpentine belt before 100K miles.

I didn't need any ratcheting tools, just used a socket and bar to loosen belt tension. Just don't let it slip and pinch yourself.

The belt tensioner accepts 3/8 ratchet head. Unfortunately there wasn't enough room to fit a normal ratchet which is why I used the tensioning tool. If yours has enough space by all means you don't have to buy/rent the special tool.
