Hello yes it's me again with the ongoing saga of a dodgy charge system. My charge light is coming on from time to time but more frequently of recent. I have checked all connections and renewed the earth strap. I have also checked for resistance in the cable and all were good with no voltage drop.When the light comes on the voltage is uneven and flicking up and down. I looked on here and other places and found out that if I remove the 3 wire smart charge plug from the alternator then the alternator reverts back to a standard alternator and if it charges ok when unplugged then the alternator is not at fault but when I remove the 3 wire smart charge plug from my alternator the alternator does not charge at all so do I suspect a fault with the alternator? From what I have read these alternators are not prone to failing.

The fault was with either the smart side of the alternator or the regulator as I replaced the alternator and its cured the fault. Happy !!
