Smoke on tick over

Smoke on tick over
Hi,
I have just cleaned the EGR valve and replaced a split hose as the car was bellowing black smoke out the exhaust when driving. The black smoke is at a minimum and the performance is incredible however when the car is up to temperature, and after a few mins smoke starts coming out the exhaust.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Paul.

Paul, we need a little bit more information to help solve this one correctly. I am making an assumption here that we are talking about the diesel engine. Signs of black smoke would imply that you have a rich condition in the engine. This is most likely caused by a fuel injector which is either leaking or sticking open.
Feed us some more information about what engine and year car we are looking at here and maybe we can give you some more guidance on where to start looking.
