I have a 2002 jaguar x-type with 121,000 miles on it. I park it outside since our garage is filled with the other cars. I have done all the regular maintence etc. When I start it cold, it starts but sounds a little rough. I live in Ohio where it's been about 10-20 degrees outside. It starts fine and runs fine, but sounds rough when it starts. Is this normal? and is this something that may be a larger issue that needs attention. It has typically done this since it dosen't like the cold, but the dealer has never said anything to me.

 

How long until it runs smoother? No check engine light? Is it weather dependent (only when really cold or hot out)? Maybe you have a little oil getting int the combustion chamber from sitting. Possibly an injector is dirty.

 

Just when I initially turn the key. The sound it makes when it's cold under 30 degrees F is rougher then it is when its warm or cool. I have had all the regular service done to it. After the car is started it warms up fine and runs fine. I just starts rough initially. It has 121,000 so I am always nervous a larger issue is looming, and just wanted to make sure it's nothing larger in the works.

 

By starts do you mean cranking or rough running. If cranking how old is your battery? A battery which is down on amps will definately spin the starter slower when colder. I'm assuming from your first post that the dealer does your service. Any chance you know what weight oil you've got in there?

 

The start is rough when i initially crank the key. I am figuring it will need a new battery within the next year (or the car just hates the cold). I honestly have no idea even what type of oil they put in it. I just know when it needs servicing I depend on the dealer to take care of anything it may need and address any potential issues. I hope to push it to 150,000 but am not sure if that is realistic for jaguars.
