Default Steering wheel re-wrapping

Hi folks,

I've got an extra steering wheel (the 2004+ version) and want to make it a bit thicker + to wrap in new leather.
So, I'm curious if anyone has done it himself?

I already found some info about that, but still any advise or past experience would be helpful and highly appreciated

I wrapped my X-Type steering wheel with a cover ordered from Wheelskins.com. I was able to select a two-tone leather wheel cover that complimented my Ivory interior/birds eye maple trim. Installation was not all that difficult at all, just threading a needle. Take your time and work carefully around the areas where the outer wheel rim meets the central wheel. Work in warmer weather, that will help the leather be more pliable.

I was very happy with my purchase, it held up great for the 4+ years I had it on my X.

Hey!

Thx you guys for your posts.

I believe Wheelskins makes nice products but I don't like the way it looks after installation. I mean it looks like a cover. But I'm going to do the exact factory match. Basically it's going to look like was made by Jag

P.S.
Something like that

No it doesn't. Pick the right color and install it properly and it looks very much like the one in the video you attached. I have done a few of these and it is a very good product for the price and not difficult to install.

Do and spend what you want though, if it makes you happy.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to have a colour that matches dove interior?
On the other hand, I guess a duo-tone cover would look out-of-place.

Thx I really had tried one and was not completely satisfied with the result. (I guess I'm a bit crazy. )

Btw, would you mind to make a couple of pictures how it looks on your steering wheel? On the 2004+ steering wheel there are 2 lower spokes
which are not completely covered by Wheelskins's cover (((( So, that's why I was not happy with their solution.

I agree with Vector - I was very satisfied with my Wheelskins cover. It complimented the colors of the interior. yes, it was obviously a steering wheel cover, but it looked like it could have been a factory or OEM option. If you take your time and are meticulous, going around the spokes is not a big issue. For the price, I found the product to be excellent and received compliments on it.

But, to each their own of course, do what makes you happy. I don't know if I have any pics of mine, I'll look (no longer have my X).

I don't have one on my XJR right now (wheel still looks like new,) but I put one on a Lincoln and an Expedition I had and also on a friend's car a few years ago.

I agree with you, if you have the wood and leather steering wheel, you would be better off to have it professionally recovered, if you have the means to do so.
