Steering wheel update
First off, this is my first post. If I'm in the wrong area or something sorry - just let me know.
I live in the Chicagoland area and found one of the best service departments (AC-Imports - Palatine) but one of the worst parts department. Lazy is an understatement.
Here is what I want to try to do. I own a 2002 X-Type SPORT - yes I'm aware it riddled with problems but I love it. As I'm sure most of you know the airbag covers curl a little bit and it make the steering wheel look like C**p. I'm sure what I want to do is impossible knowing my luck but maybe someone can help me. I want to take the newer style 2004+ (I think) steering wheel with WOOD accents and of course the new airbag and replace it with my standard leather 02 wheel.
So here is what I'm looking for, 1 - is this even possible or are the controls too different to work. ( I have all the normal stuff on my wheel cruise, radio, phone) 2 - What kind of wood is in the sport (the dark gray - non-walnut?) or is it just dark stained walnut? 3 - is it possible to even get the wood / leather 04+ wheel with the sport pkg wood? 4 - If it is possible to get the sport wood on the newer steering wheel whats the part number for the wheel.
Can't bring myself to part with the car as I'm the second owner I bought it just off a 2 yr lease and it just hit 80K pampered miles.
Oh and does anyone know where jaguar sends the wood to be restained (mines faded) Going through jaguar to get it refinished seems to be...well like most jaguar stuff a serious rip off. I'm sure that the vendor who does it for them can be contacted without going through a *******. yes I wrote ******* instead of dealer.
