Question t/c replace

ok - 87m. t/c clunking ect. felt it threw the gas pedal diagnosed all noise coming from the t/c. i thought it sounded like a bad bearing on passenger side front but guess not.

i did a bunch of research. sell the car, fix ect.
wont really get **** for the x type with a broke t/c and other various miner issues it has. doesn't really benefit to sell it. i'm thinking if i am lucky 4,000$ with its problems. needs a new t/c and a hub assembly.

to fix, i found a t/c for 1,600 on jaguarparts.com new. looked up the replacement procedure - doesn't seem bad i feel comfortable. hardest part is probably removing axle shafts and drive shaft.(?) need the 13mm wrench cut in half blah blah blah.

if i do the replacement, i beleive that there is an inner seal between the t/c and the transmission. im guessing i should replace this seal. Is there any other seals i should replace / parts i should replace while im at it.

whenever you search the web for info - it comes in various date ranges. spread apart by years so i'm wondering if anyone here has a link to a page with a tried and proven method for installation. a good place to buy a discounted t/c. any tips - advice - watch out for information that i should take into consideration before i attempt the replacement?

any feed back pointers is appreciated as always.

also - with the transfer case out of the way should i change the tran fluid?
i've read that mobil 1 products work but i feel more comfortable with the jaguar/castrol crap for 49$. however $800 is a good extra bit to throw ontop of an already expensive repair..
hm.

Default Atf

Castrol recommends their Import Multi-Vehicle ATF for the X-Type, and it meets all the Jaguar specs. It is pretty inexpensive too.

I'm in the same predicament because I have a hole in my transfer case. The dealership quoted me 4000 to fix it so I want to do it myself. Where can I find the procedure to do so?

Gaudin has it for $1,462.50, these guys offer best service ever. I generally order parts from them and install it myself.

Before you attempt anything, look around for a shop that will accept to take the part and install it for you, at least that way when you order it and in the event you can't do it yourself, you have an alt. option. Labor rates here in DC don't differ much between the dealer and private shop, so I take the part to the dealer sometimes when it's beyond my ability and have them install it. As long as it's an OEM part from Jaguar and new, they don't have an issue with it. Worth a try.
