Default Thanks to this forum !

Last week I took my X Type for its MOT and it failed

The rear wheel bearing, front brakes were the failure points.

Also the power steering was terrible in that it was whining and very creaky and I was expecting all sorts of problems and so was he !

Searching on the internet I found this forum and its various links.

This led me to advising my mechanic regarding issues that had previously been highlighted on here including grit in the wheel drums/bearings and a Jaguar Technical Bulletin regarding the use of an additive to the power steering fluid.

Anyway he ordered the additive and followed the instructions on the TB.

He double checked the bearings and cleaned the area with an air hose.

Result !!! Everything was sorted

And even the front brake problem turned out to be minor not needing any parts !!!.

Final Result - MOT completed at much less cost than it might have been.

So thanks to everyone on here who takes the trouble to post their experiences hoping that it will help others.

Take my word for it. It really can help !

Cheers

P.S. On top of this I also had the problem with the Key Fob not locking the doors despite changing the battery. On this site I found out that the problem could be a sticky flap on the keyway on the steering column. When it next happened I looked at this and yes it was jammed open and when I put the key back in wiggled and removed it the flap closed and the problem was solved. A little graphite lubrication has now resolved it completetely I hope !
