Default Timing Chain Issues

I have a 2002 X-type that had a blown head gasket. I had it repaired by a mechanic who didn't know about Jaguars. He set the timing and now the car starts but whenever you plug the cam position sensor in you hear a clicking noise from the front of the motor. Noise only occurs when the sensor is plugged in. When its unplugged the car runs and revs great. Any ideas?
