I doubt it! A couple of my uncles are between 4 and 6 years older than me and I call them by their names!

That would be weird to me. I feel weird when I try to talk to either my father or mother in law or try to get their attention. Feel weird saying ma and pa but feels worse if I were to say their names!

See I don't know the maam and sir was like before we got married and what not, now I'm getting flack when I call her parents on the phone for not saying mom and dad! Feels too weird and I don't want to sound stupid!

I think Americans, no offense Aquill, overwhelm themselves with things that are so...meaningless. The inlaws should simply be called by their names or a yes sir/yes ma'am, and call it a day!

If thats the case why don't you just say mom and dad than??? Although some in-laws might not be nice enough to be called mom and dad!

because I call my mom and dad, mom and dad. I call my in laws, my in laws! In spanish, a mother in law is called suegra, and I can call my mother in law Suegra, so I don't see the use for any other name for them!

Its different for every culture...i'll just keep being uncomfortable for a little while and I'll go from there! Try calling them mom or dad once...see what happens!
