Default Trouble with doorlock

Hello everyone, I purchased a 2002 3.0 X-Type Sport Edition 6 months ago. Up till now, it's been pretty troublefree, but a couple of days ago, I started having trouble locking the car with my keyfob. I can't get the keyfob to lock tghe door consistently and when I force it using the key, it locks, but I get 2 beeps. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? Just for refference, i've opened and closed all the door, trunk, and hood. What else can I be missing?

Thank you all in advance.

Zack

Not sure there Zack haven't heard of that problem before...as you said though you checked that all doors and hood and trunk are closed....does a light come on inside the car when you have it running and all doors are shut?

Turn the car on. See if the message center says "Boot Open/Trunk Open". If so, open the trunk, and close it again. Press the button before you close it so the lock can engage.

As for the key fob problem, take it apart and clean it. Worked for me, as I had some sticky stuff on my buttons which was preventing it from working properly.

If you hear chimes when the key is out, the ignition switch door (that little door that covers the key hole) isn't shut. To solve this problem, put the key in just a hair, and turn the ignition toward you just a hair. That should close the hole.

Or when you hear the chimes just lubricate the lock mechanism.

there is one thing that happens.. specially after body shop has had it.. the switch under the hood which tells the car the hood is closed sometimes the pad where the switch touches falls off,, so when you close the hood the switch doesn't fully close causing the double beep..it's a sticky pad.. is the pad there? its' black about a inch in diameter.. near coolant resevoir

Few days ago since he posted maybe he forgot or it worked itself out! I'm going with the latter as that happens with my problems....they all seem to sometimes work themselves out!

Sorry everyone for the late resonse, but i've had a heck of a week at work (I work in the IT Dept of a construction company). Anyway, here's what i've tried/verified:

1) The message center doesn't say anything about any doors/trunk/hood being open.
2) The 2 beeps I heard the other day when I forced the car to lock are no longer around. I'm not sure what the deal was that day, but whatever it was, the behavior no longer exists.
3) The keyfob continues to unlock the car without trouble, but I can't seem to lock it using the keyfob.

What i'm going to try now is replacing the battery. Is there anything I need to worry about when changing the battery (loke losing the relationship between the keyfob & the car)? I'll report back after I try this.

Thank you all for your help.

Zack

Just keep in mind that these cars do many funky things! They come and they go...hey zack what year is your car? Mine had a recall on the keyfob and you could take it to a jag dealer and have them look at it...they replaced my key fob and the batteries in my other one...good luck...

my key stopped working a couple times. i had it replaced about 6months after getting the car, needed to have it fixed again about a year later, and then about half a year ago got the recall thing, i dunno what it was that they did, but it looks and does the same thing as before. hopefully they dont break now

I have no idea what's going wrong with the keyfobs .I don't think I have heard some problems associated with the keyfobs for other Jaguar models
