Question Uneven tyre wear

2009 X-type 2L diesel estate, Pirelli P-Zeros all round.

I'd welcome the forum's comments and advice on this situation. I have had this car from new and the same problem re-occurs with the rear near side tyre, I get tread 'blocking' to the inner segment of tread after about 10,000 miles accompanied by a droning noise.

The alignment is all ok and the car hasn't been in an accident or potholed either.

Swapping tyres rear to front makes the noise worse (more weight) and the steering then pulls slightly to one side.

I have read about worn bushes etc but I'm only at 44k so far and have had the problem from new so don't think this is the cause.

MCW, I would venture to guess that you are getting wear on the lower front trailing arm on the rear suspension. If this gets out a little bit, it will cause what you are seeing and it is correctable with an alignment. Unfortunately, the fix is to get a new arm. Another check that you can do is to take a long sweeping turn at say 40 kph and try to accelerate like you were going to pass someone on the curve. Does the rear end of the car feel like it is going to step out on you? If so, this confirms the bad arm problem.
