any idea which gearbox was used?

Any idea what other changes were made?

it seems easy enough to add a turbo and build a custom controller and anyone with a cnc mill can build a strengthened transfer case. It just might be simpler to use an existing Volvo transmission from a junked car.

 

Considering that some parts are shared between the S40 and the X-TYpe, I would start there and see what you can find out. Much beyond that, you are having to look at bolt patterns and shaft splines to see what may or may not work.

 

The 5 speed automatic transmission in the S40 is a 5-speed Aisin AW55-50. Not a Jatco.

The 2008 FWD X-Type used the Aisin 6-speed, but since it was a prototype, I'd actually be surprised if it wasn't a manual transmission. Much easier to experiment with, programming-wise. Why not send a PM to Count Iblis & see if he remembers anything
