Hey gents-

I am wanting to go ahead and buy some ignition coils replace as a preventative measure. No misfire lights, but it’s probably time.

The OEM coils are Denso made in Japan as you all know. I can’t find any Denso coils made in Japan. The eBay coils that sell 6 for 70 bucks seem like asking for problems. Nothing that cheap can last very long.

So I can either order the coils from Jaguar directly at 100 each, or I could get the NKG coils that sell for about 250 for 6

Does anyone have experience with what are quality coils that fit the X type ?

There's Delphi and NGK ones on Rockauto at present for $25-35/pc (plus add maybe $25 for shipping). On my Saabs, NGK are the only "trusted" aftermarket coils that people use with any success, and those cars are insanely picky about their coil pack and plugs... The X-Type is fairly agnostic, so I'd use either without worrying about it in all honesty.

 

Not sure on aftermarket coil pack and plugs quality but I can tell you from bitter experience that where O2 sensors are concerned only fit original Densos..!!

 

Thanks for your response. I am fairly paranoid about coils. My XJS has the first coil on plug system Jaguar used, and when I replaced those coils with aftermarket parts, it was a really a bad experience. I had all sorts of seemingly unrelated problems I was chasing and throwing parts at until I realized it was the aftermarket coils. I am leaning towards the NGK coils , but I would like to hear from someone who has had them in their X type for a long time.
