Whats that smell?!? Burning brakes!!!!
Check the park brake cables they can seize up a common problem on the X-Types. If you look at the arm on the back of the caliper with the park brake not applyed the arm should be on the stop it looks like a small allen bolt. They are cheep from Jaguar and not hard to do.
Did you pull the cable off? if it is sticking and you pull the lever you may be pulling the cable out. I worked at the dealer up to about 2 years ago and I replaced more cables than calipers on the rear, I am not saying that they don't go but if you have replaced several calipers that there may be someting else going on.
Dana, yes, I removed the cable from the caliper and could move the lever by hand (very difficult) and initially had to use a screw driver to make it move.
If you know something that I don't, I would love to hear it. This caliper lasted right about 3 years. I can see a little bit of rust between where the caliper body is and the piece for the e-brake (round cylinder that goes into the caliper). So, that is more than likely what is causing it to bind up. I use my e-brake every time I park the car. So, it is not like it doesn't get used as I drive my car daily.

Dennis, atleast on the calipers that I have, there is no visible seal for the e-brake lever. It is buried inside the caliper somewhere. I may have to look into the rebuild kit and see where I can find them and what it takes to do a rebuild. I don't think it will be all that difficult as I used to rebuild air valves for work. We'll see. Just looking for a little bit of insight before I jump in beyond no return.
Did you ever get that missing information - or do a rebuild of the rear Calliper ?
I need to do mine...... it would be great to have all the required info. up front !
I'm looking for; Jag TB/instructions, Diagrams or Exploded Parts View to assist with this job. Can you help?
Rrgards,
Larry
LCGI, I have not played with my rear brakes as life has kept me pretty busy (gotta love building a house). But, if you do some looking, I have taken a bunch of pictures during one of my rebuilds. Check out: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...fix-1-a-73065/. That should answer most of your questions that you may have. If you have any mechanical ability, once you get the caliper apart, it will make perfect sense to you and putting it back together is really easy. The hardest part of the whole thing is getting the rubber part off from the piston side of the caliper. That is easily done by pulling the piston out and then using a flat blade screw driver to get in behind the seal and prying up gently as to not rip the rubber.
