Wheel bearing side determination
Gang,
I bought a beck/arnley wheel bearing and for the life of me I can't tell which side is the magnetic side that goes toward the inside when replacing it.
How can I determine this? Each side looks the same.
Nothing seems to "stick" to either side...can't tell which is "magnetic".
Here's a link to the product if you want to see it:

Quick update: autopartswarehouse.com sold me the wrong bearing. I called Beck/Arnely and they said they don't make a front bearing for my car...they said that it must have been mis-cataloged, thus explains the reason for no indication of which side carries the reluctor.
So.....I'm going to have to pick one up at the Jag dealer in Columbus later on.
What a process.

There is a right or wrong side. You can tell which side is correct by placing either side on something metal and seeing where the magnets are. That is the side that goes in. I had a lot of issues where my bearing was installed incorrectly(ABS/DSC doesn't read the wheel at all).
Yep. That's why when nothing stuck to my bearing I called Beck/Arnley directly and they gave me the low-down that it's not one for my X. Good thing I called instead of risking just having it put in and hope they got the correct side in.
