Default Wheel Help

Hello all,

Need some help...

I just cracked one of the 18" Aruba rims and looking for a new set up. I would like to go a size bigger. I found these on good old ebay and there local but I don't think the stagger works.

TSW Croft 19" Gunmetal Rims Wheels Jaguar XF 09 Up 19 x 8 0 9 5 5H 35 | eBay

or they have them in a 18" size which I could just use the tires I have.
Wheel Specifications

Model - TSW - CROFT

Size - 18 x 8.0

Bolt Pattern - 5 x 108

Offset - +35

Centerbore to fit - 73.1mm

Any wheel guys have input on the staggered set up? Maybe a set of adapters in the rear?

Don't know much about the staggered set up other than spacers will help you get that look. I would be interested to know if that TSW logo is a centercap and if it could be removed to place the Jaguar center caps in its place. I have the "3D" center caps from the XJ that I know look way better than the standard caps that we get with our wheels.

I have been wondering about a staggard set up myself. Not a fan of using spacers. Have had limited experiance with them, but all have been bad. Would be nice to hear from anyone who has experiance running staggard on the x-type.

I changed the Aruba wheels on my x type for Proteus wheels from an S type, both are 18 inch wheels but the difference is that Arubas are 7.5 inches wide with an offset of 52.5 and the Proteus ones 8 inches wide with an offset of 60. I haven't had any rubbing problems. It obviously depends also on the width of tyre fitted, but you can work the difference out if you know the width and offset of both wheels as follows:-
The amount of wheel behind the hub is (wheel width divided by 2 plus the offset) and the amount sticking out from the hub (wheel width divided by 2 minus the offset)
In the case of my wheels that relates to:-
Aruba - Width (7.5in) = 190.5mm - Offset = 52.5mm - backspace = 147.75mm (190.5/2 + 52.5) - outer face = 42.75 (190.5/2 – 52.5)
Proteus - Width (8in) = 203.2mm - Offset = 60mm - backspace = 161.6mm (203.2/2 + 60) - outer face = 41.6 (203.2/2 – 60)
Meaning the Proteus wheels sit 13.85mm further back.
Your TWS wheels - Width (8in) = 203.2mm - Offset = 35mm - backspace = 136.6mm (203.2/2 + 35) - outer face = 66.6mm (203.2/2 – 35)
Meaning they will stick out 23.85mm (nearly 1 inch) further and be 11.25mm further away from the inner wheel arch.
Spacers will just make it worse.

Thank you for the reply and unfo. I don't even have to do the math but seems as if staggered setup just wouldn't even make sense.

I still have the stock p-zeros 225-40-18 on them so if I stay at 18" I would pefer to use them if I could. If I have to buy a new set then ideally in going to go a size bigger.

Also found these http://www.usarim.com/19-inch-jaguar...jr-p-1975.html for a pretty solid price and they come at various offsets. What would be an ideal offset for these?

I think with the 8.5 inch wheels you might just have a rubbing issue as although you can get the backspace very similar using a 40 offset you then have an extra inch sticking out (plus a bit more for the tyre) which might be a bit much for the front wheels to avoid the bumper / inner arch.
The website says they fit the X type, but you may have to limit the steering lock so they don't turn to far. If you set them further back with a 45-50 offset you risk the back of the tyre catching.
Getting back to the TSW wheel and your existing tyres you would need to check how a 225 wide tyre looks as they are wider than your Arubas and may have the wheel sticking proud of the sidewall.

I was told today by a buddy that he is running an 8" wide tire with 225's. I ideally want 19's but seems as if the 18" tsw aren't a bad choice especially for around $400.

Guys, surely a staggered setup would screw with the AWD system?

Edit: Of course that theory gets totally shot down when you look at the specs of the Porsche Panamera 4 : http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/pa...turesandspecs/

Tirerack have an article on the subject which makes interesting reading:
Tire Tech Information - Matching Tires on Four-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive Vehicles

Rob

Slocs, the trick with running a staggered setup is finding 2 wheel sizes that end up with the same overall diameter. This is actually easier done than you think. You can even have a little bit of difference (I would say not to have more than about 0.5%). The car can make up for some difference in tires, but there is a limit to how much difference you can have. This is where you would really need to pay attention to which wheels are bigger than others and know that when you buy tires, you are either buying all 4 at the same time or you have to buy the tires that when new, will be really close to the worn tire diameter. Granted, when the older tires wear out, you will end up buying 4 new tires.

There a comparison site here

Alloy Wheels & Tyres for sale: for Cars, Motorhomes, Vans & 4x4s: Best UK prices with TYRESAVE. Also part-worn tyres

Just put in your existing size at the top and the new size below and it will work out the difference for you

Still would love to run that 19" staggered setup but still don't know anyone who has tried on here. I know some have don't it on the Newer BMW 3-series 4 door.
