So I was looking at the pile of wheel hubs (3 from bearing failures) lying next to my winter alloy wheels and I came up with an idea.
The wheels are quite ruined from the salt and the ruined part is the outter rim that was machined aluminum and clear coated.
I came up with an idea to mount the hub on my drill press and rig up a way to use the drill to spin the wheel...
ThenI used a variety of chisels and was able to remove all the clear coat and the oxidised aluminum. Followed by some sanding and polishing.
it takes a little while to do each wheel. I just work at it for a few minutes on and off.. keeps the system from getting too hot.
I think the results are going to be great. I bought some wheel clear coat today.

RE: wheel refurb... home lathe
the hubs are rusty.. par for the course for winter driven cars. The new ones I had to buy were barely painted... just a light dusting of paint on them. I suspect even arizona cars would have orange hubs by now...

these wheels are partly painted and partly just clearcoated over polished aluminum. The painted part is in perfect condition. the problem is on the clearcoated areas....
I did see your posts on the wheels, looks good.
