Hello guys wondering if I may need to replace lower control arm on my 08 Jaguar Xtype what happened was I bent the arm while struggling to get the rivets out here's how it looked before I replaced it with the bolts that came with the ball joints. Now after putting it back in place I now hear a bump sound when I pull off and sometimes on turns so you guys are the best need your great advice now.
PLayer, you may not need to replace the lower arm, but I would atleast pull the ball joint back out and using say a large C-Clamp, use that to press the metal back to more of a tighter fit to the ball joint. Then I would bolt it back down and go from there. If you still have rattles at that point, then replace the lower arm. The C-Clamp will give you the leverage you need to slowly move the metal back to where it needs to be. May need to put a little bit of a cheater on the arm you use to tihgten the C-clamp though.
Ok i got that but i bought a new arm good price 44 dollars but do you think it would be a good idea to change the other one as well also going to change the hub bearing on the driver's side cause it make a noise i know its that one from previous posts so again should i just change the bearing on the other side too?
PLayer, if you are upgrading parts on one side of the car because they are worn out, then replacing them on both sides is a good thing to do, especially if you are needing to borrow tools. Besides, the cost of the parts is not that bad and you should also get an alignment done after replacing the parts. So, do it one time and call it done. Otherwise, you are going to be questioning what you did and always have that nagging in your head of "why didn't I just ......".
The Links had to be cut off and drilled out. The bolts holding the the backs are installed top down. I cut the bolt heads off and reinstalled them upside down with grade 10.9 and locknuts. Done in my garage with standard tools, Hard but possible for me
