Would you buy an 2003 2.5 with 122K miles on it?
Here is the little double din kit: Metra 99 9501B Single Double DIN Kit Jaguar s Type 06 06 x Type 02 07 Black | eBay
Disguay, is this a universal fit for all touchscreen/car stereos?
And I bought mine for $4200 Canadian dollars. '02 168,000km, 5spd 3.0L Sport
It is a fun car, but you'll come across common problems later in the future. If you do regular maintenance and treat that car like a queen, then she won't let you down. If you do otherwise, well.. you know how females react back..

Yeah, Dennis, your threads on changing the fluids were some that convinced me I really, really wanted the car -- and I was 20 minutes too late!!
I'm still kicking myself, and now i'm scouring craigslist for other X-type 5-speeds in the vicinity.

if you can find an 02-03 with under 90000miles you should be in good shape most issues should have been done by now...then you have the added benifit of awd for a little money,
fluids are so essential and if you can drive it resonably it should last a long time,
once you get it inspect these hoses for cracks

transfer case fluid change

this is my rx7 i use for power

i build rotary engines

There is a "Sticky" for this site, but easily missed:
Jaguar For Sale Auctions | Jaguar AuctionWatch
Whatever the search parameters this fellow uses, I know I am unable to search Ebay quite as effectively as this site no matter how I search on my own. This site is excellent for checking prices and/or finding what you are looking for.
Keep an eye on it daily for a week or two. You will find the car you are looking for!
In the meantime, in order to warm your wife up a bit to the idea of owning a Jag, watch
with her! Best 'o luck!

$10,000. I think it has 52000 miles on it. '04 3.0L 5-speed manual with sport package (18" wheels, etc.). Book value around $6200 - $7200 (edmunds.com).
There are about a dozen in my area right now and all but 2 are over priced. Maybe our cars are gaining value. I feel like answering some ads and asking if they have a clue.
I think the pricing is indicative of craigslist auto ads in general. I haven't been limiting my search to the X-type and listed prices are often unrealistic regardless of make -- although BMW owners seem to be particularly skilled at overvaluing their cars. I saw a 2001 X5 (stick shift!) listed at TWICE the book value yesterday.

the reason I got my jag was because it was the cheapest decent car I could find. Honda and such were stupid expensive. ONLY 5 speed I have seen is the 1 that sold over the last few months 05 / 69k $8500. the rest have been up for months.
Thanks. I'm pretty sure the seller here thinks i'm nuts telling him his car (the 04 / 52K) is only worth $7300 at the most.
I, personally don't give a damn thing about "book value". If it's a well maintained car it's going to cost you money. $10k is a bit too much, but $8.5-9k seems to be a reasonable price for a car in great shape. And I would not worry about the mileage as much as I would about how the car has been treated.

I trust the book values as a reference to what cars are actually selling for, but for sure there's a bell curve distribution to any of those numbers. I also figure for a car like the X-type, where sales numbers are relatively small that the values are more variable than more popular cars.
Edmunds.com does take into account a condition rating, so the $7300 figure is an estimate for an "outstanding" sample. But in the end, the only real way to know the value of a car is when it sells.

It may sound funny, but I might actually prefer a car with 80-100k over a 55K sample, because I figure if the car is poorly maintained it will really show at 100K. Whereas pretty much any car with 55K is going to look pretty good.

Based on past experience I'd say you can figure out the mean market price by spending some time surfing the internet. It works better than KBB and etc. for me.
But sometimes it does not work too. In case there is a very nice car, that has been well maintained and beloved. And it's going to cost more that the market average and there is nothing you can do about it. And I'd not say that mileage is the best way to judge about cars. I've seen some cars with 300k+ miles on them but there were better in every way than some 50k mils cars.
When you check a car, you usually feel how reasonable the asking price is.

This dealer has a location at the end of the street I work on and I get the pleasure of seeing each vehicle driven right before it gets posted.
Autos Direct Online | Jaguar | Cleveland, Ohio
They rotate through a lot of Jags, and an Aston Martin or two, with usually reasonable pricing. I know I saw another 5-speed on their site not too long ago. Maybe give them a holler and see if they can help locate one for ya.

Ok guys. I am somewhat in the same predicament. However, I currently own a 2000 S-type and need a second car for family. My friend want to sell me his 2002 X-type 2.5 for $1500.00 but the manual transmission need to change. About how much would this cost to change on the average.
