Default The X got hit!

So just the other day, i was waiting to get out of a parking lot, and all of a sudden the person in front of me started backing up and hit me. I honked but still he kept going faster. The only real damage was to the hood, and a few scratches on the bumper. So i am going to need to replace the hood, and was wondering if anyone knows if there is a production carbon fiber hood. Ive looked at every custom autoshop within a 100 mile radius from where i live, looked all over the web, yet cant find any anywhere. As all you x-type owners know, the hood on our car is pretty damn heavy. So if anyone knows of a place to get a CF one, please let me know.

Cheers

Aww man, good luck with that! Due to oval shape around the head lights on the x-type and s-type, the fabrication of a CF hood would have to be custom, and extremely expensive due to the degree of dificulty.

Peobably even more so if its a one off, as I've never heard of any availabale, although that doesn't mean they don't exist.
Have you tried the Performance suppliers like Arden and RGC? They do so many performance upgrades, ECU upgrades, exhausts etc etc, it may be a possibility

Thanx for the help. I didnt find any hoods, i guess im just going to have to make do with a heavy stock one. Gettinga custom one made would probably run way over a grand, as the stock one costs about $800 unpainted.

No aftermarket hoods are out and probably never will be due to the low number of Jag sales.

I would love some carbon fiber stuff for the jag...especially the hood and trunk cause like my man said, those alone weight a ton.
As a matter of fact, you all know what the jag tips the scales at? mine says 3800+ WOW that's alot for a little car like that...i was figuering maybe 3k tops....

I'm thinking of removing the rear seats and padding maybe cut out about 200+ pounds....
I got about 275 hp and losing that extra weight can maybe net me a sec off the clock. plus I don't have kids or anybody to lug around other than my fat ***....

Lol racer, you speed freak ,just like me!
I saw ALL the dead flies n stuff on ur front bumper when u posted ur pics.
Like I said some time ago, it is some heavy piece of machinery for sure. You can actually "feel" the weight difference when u go from the X to my Saab.
Still love it though, but I'd realy like to add a few morew horses.

My rear windows are limo tint so no one will be able to tell, plus i was gonna run a black cloth to cover up the exposed metal....

Should be two bolts holding the seat in place and for the sides, it has a self locking clasp, you need to use some force to pull them out...

The seats themselves only weigh about 5 lbs. They're made of foam and cloth. However if you remove the front passenger seat, you just took out about 50-60 lbs.[sm=insomnia.gif] Also, you can remove another 50 pounds if you remove the spare tire and put in a smaller battery. But who wants to start removing everything on the car??? I am not suggesting to remove the spare. I don't want anyone stranded on the highway because of no spare.

Thanks for the advice, if its only about 5-10lbs for the rears, then i gues ill just leave them in. as for the spare, i hope i never have to use it, but i shud keep it in there just incase.

Put some of that solution in your tyres that seals any holes instantly if you get a hole in it?????

I have rims on the car, and wudnt want to risk driving on them flat at all due to not having much side wall. Plus i use to work at a tire place myself, and it really sucks for the people that have to fix the flat when theres the liquid stuff (fix-a-flat)in it. It stinx, and is really hard to get the tire clean enough to fix the flat. From experience, i wudnt want some else to go through that.

+1 on that liquid smelling like crap. Also, it's really hard for the tire guy to get the tire off the rim when it has that sealing goo.

I moved my spare out...lol....bought a small air compressor and tire repair kit to take it's place.....and moved the battery in the trunk as well.

Good results so far....as for the air compressor, i got some cool points when a lady had a flat in the market parking lot....thought i help out...know what i mean?? Anyway, saw that it was a small nail, pulled it, plugged it with the tire kit, plugged the compressor in her cig lighter and in 10 min she was on the road.....got her numer and she drove off with saying...."you got like a James bond car, are you like 007?" i was in heaven......

I'm with you on that one Andersen, re the non use of run flats.
I was thinkin about tradin for the BMW 530d and it has run flats. If I went ahead, as soon as they were worn out they'd be gettin replaced with std tyres.
Isn't there some issue with road noise as well?

Run flats arn't expensive unless you think that paying for one tire could buy you aftermarket rims and tires for the front or rear for the same amount!
