X type electrical help needed please.
Hi all, I want to wire some led running lights into my x type so that they come on automatically when I start the car, irrelevant as to whether my main lights are on or off. What could I connect the wires onto to do this, and would it cause any harm (or confuse the ECU)? Thanks in advance.

Beware !! Cheap, tacky, DIY aftermarket DRL's , look just like Cheap tacky,DIY aftermarket DRL's . & who thought this idea up in the first place ?? I have a switch on my dash & I can turn on my sides , dip , main & fogs , as an when conditions warrant it or is a legal requirement .
adamn, if you want the lights to come on any time the car is running, then any switchable power source will do. The LED lights are not going to pull enough power to be a concern to most of the circuits in the car. With that being said, if you are looking at LED lights that pull over 1 amp per light, then you might want to consider powering them via a more dedicated circuit.
Easiest 'on with ignition' circuit to pull from is the cigar lighter (as long as you don't have the lighter always on), send the signal to a relay, then switch the lights using the relay circuit.
Personally, I'd just have someone with a computer tweak the DRL toggle on and use the existing lights.
Except for that Audi setup with the fog surrounded by the leds...that actually looks good under there!
