Thx Thermo - this was an old post but allows me to fix another lighting problem.
*** Update***
My 2002 X-Type has a splash plate installed with SEVERAL torque screws on the undercarriage preventing me from easily reaching the fog light housing from underneath. I turned my tires to the inner limit and reached into the wheel well and removed the 3 lowest screws from the wheel well splash protector and pulled the protector gently out of the way. The fog lamp housing was then reachable. I turned the lamp holder 45 degrees to free it from the housing as Thermo had stated above. Replaced the old bulb (H1) with the new as Thermo described, put the lamp holder back in and turned to secure. Replaced screws in wheel well splash protector.
Whole process took about 15 mins.
