Talking X-Type handling in the snow

I know a lot of this also depends on tires.... just got some great new tires from Cooper.

But I LOVE how this car handles in the snow!!!! I am in Northeastern Ohio, and the snow can be anywhere from deep and slushy, to very cold and a fine powder, and icy highways. This baby takes slippery turns great, and I can drive right OVER the heavy DEEP snow in my driveway, instead of getting stuck like my Honda Accord does. (I have a gravel driveway, hard to plow....)

My Jag has stick-shift, which certainly doesn't hurt!!! I feel so safe in this car, with great handling and tons of airbags too. I cannot count the number of times in my Honda that while slowing down getting off on an exit ramp, I started to go sideways, even just tapping the breaks. Honda is not a bad car, don't get me wrong. But when the chips are down, Jaguar leaves it in the dust!

We may have anywhere from 11-20 inches in the next 48 hours. At some point, I'll park the X and drive my son's pickup!

I've been more than pleased with the way my wife's X-type handles the icy streets. Haven't really had it out on the highway for any long trips this winter and if it really gets nasty I've got the 4WD Dakota or the old Wrangler that's my daily driver, but I'm glad for my wife's sake that the Jag has AWD.

I'm here in Northeast Pa., and we get our share of snow, ice, and just plain bad weather. My Jag has yet to let me down, but if it does get to bad, I always have the back up of my dodgeram 2500 4X4, with the V-10. don't want my Jaguar to get hurt. Not that the jaguar would be the problem, I worry about all the other people on the road without a Jaguar.

even with the directional sports on the car it rolls through the snow. I drive it just as always with a little more time to stop. thats about it.

My X-Type is my winter car and this is the 4th tough Chicago winter she is going through - I have nothing but absolutely great things to say about the X in the snow and icy conditions (all season Kumho Ecsta tires). Since my comfort level with the cat has grown over the last few years, I find myself fooling around too much though, I almost hit a co-workers car in the parking lot the other day trying to rally. I love watching snow fly straight up from the front fenders while going sideways. I have gone through a few bent rims from pot-holes, but that's my wife's fault. Still love the cat with more than 100K on the odo, she still looks new

I have not had an issue with my X in the snow. It has performed better then I could have expected. I have never ever gotten stuck, it cuts through the snow like its not there. Today we had some light snow, really wet roads and my new Goodyears had no issues what so ever.. I passed someone driving a Ford Gt, not sure what he was thinking taking that out??

And if it ever is too bad to take the X out in the snow, I have a 09 Nissan Murano with AWD that is excellent in the snow/wet weather too..

We've had a foot of snow since Thursday and it started when I was at work. We also had an inch and half of ice before the snow started.

I drove my Jag home while all of this was happening , and I'm happy to report, she did just fine. Actually, I was more concerned about what the elements would do to my paint, that how she would fair on the roads.

Jamey, do they use salt down there on the roads? If not, I would think it would be no worse than if it rained out. Water is water. At least down by you it melts right away. Here it sticks around for months, or if it does get warm enough to melt that usually means there is a cold snap following. Can't wait for spring in a couple months so my car can stay clean more than 10 minutes.

I had an 03 and now an 05. the 03 was great in the snow! the 05 is good, better then most any other car out there. i drove that 03 like a champ in the snow and it never slipped... not once. i did spin out in the 05 on the interstate... but i was driving around 75mph in about 12 inches of fresh snow so it was no surprise

i also live in ohio (cleveland) and this is a great car for the weather we get up here.

if i could have an 03 without the flaws of the 03 that would be the perfect all season car!

Yea, i remerb a bad snowstrom up hee in canada, where it can reach -50 celcuis, massssive jacked up, 4by4 ford/dodges/chevs were getting stuck, and then there was a little black jag, that made it through like nothing. 2002-2003 are the best for awd, my 2.5 will make it through anything, i might have to put mactracks on her later lol

So far this year, my jag has missed all the big snowfalls. Last year it was a champ and never even gave a hint of struggle throughout the worst a Sask winter has to offer.

My 02 on Hankook IceBear w300 snow/ice tires absolutely dominates in the snow and ice. On the odd occasion where I don't get the snow rims/tires on early in the year, even my performance tires do just fine, although I don't push my luck when I have two trucks in the fleet.

Not that I'm afraid to get stuck in the X, but rather to keep salt and ash/gravel off the body of the car, and I'd rather somebody hit one of my trucks than my beloved X (been there done that once) I do park it sometimes in the winter.

The X seems no less capable than my Range Rover, but of course for the ground clearance.....and actually better than my Jeep unless i'm in 4hi.....
