Default X-type headlamp wiring

The headlamp burned out on my x-type. It is low mileage so was surprised that it had. New bulb is not very expensive. To replace the bulb one must remove the sealed cover over the back of the headlamp to gain access to the bulb (two clips). I was very surprised to find the the wire insulation had eroded and was missing from the wire in places, laying it bare. I now suspect the burned out bulb was the result of a short. The attached picture, while fuzzy, shows the wires. In addition to an inch or more insulation missing from the two wire leading to the filament bulb, the insulation was broken underneath a tie wrap as it came out of the protective sheathing. I surmise the insulation deteriorated as a result of heat build up in the enclosed protective cover over the back of the headlamp. Could be a fire hazard, if not a cause for a blown fuse or shorted bulb.
