X-Type Rear Upper Control Arm - Volvo S40 Fit?
I've read that the Volvo S40's rear upper control arm will fit the X-Type AND can be adjusted.
I'm in the middle of replacing both rear axles, lower control arms, and shocks on my 04 X-Type. Having one side totally disassembled and the axle out, I now see that the upper control arm is right there and I've got it 1/2 disconnected already. Maybe a bit of slop in the bushings, but while I'm there..... ?
Looking at prices for an X-Type replacement come in at about $120.00 ea +/- a pop while the Volvo adjustable is much less. Cheaper? New? Adjustable? Seems like a no-brainer as I'm already this far into it.
I guess my question is, Will the Volvo arms truly fit??? This beast has fought me the entire way and while I'm not excited about putting any more time & $ in it at this time, it seems having an adjustable arm in the rear would be nice. At every alignment I always get the "Can't do much with the rear, no adjustment".
Any 1st hand experience? Whuddaya Think???

Duncan, I am the one that figured out that the volvo arm fits on the X-Type. I did it on my car and it worked perfect for a long time. Take a look at https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...rol-arm-88530/. That should have all the proof that you need. There are some good info points in there too. If you have any additional questions, let me know. I will pass on all that I know.

Duncan: Many of us use Thermo's adjustable control arms, and are thankful that our tires last much longer, and ride smoother.
Search eBay for "Rear Upper Adjustable Control Arm" and either "Mazda", "Focus", "Ford" or "Volvo". Here's a $75 pair w/ S&H:

I've done this mod as well, it comes highly recommended around here. If you've already got it all dismantled you might as well replace them.
A couple of us have also replaced the lower forward (toe) arms with Ford Focus adjustable toe arms. Rear toe alignment is crucial for straight line drivability and also accounts for quite a bit of anormal inner tire wear...small mod needed for it to work but it's easily doable...
