Default X-Type refresh?

I am 03 X-type owner -215K miles, car has lived a good life, and owes me nothing. I am looking at an 06 w/30k for 15k, 07 w/60k for 14k and then I found an 06 w/98k for only 7k. I am seriously thinking about the last option. They are all mint condition except the 06/98k has different tires on the front and back. With the help of this forum I've been able to keep my expenses quite low and expect I could do the same with a new-er model. I haven't seen too many posters talk about buying a new xtype but would like feedback on the 06s and 07s if anyone has any opinions.

Thanks,
Bill

Being in Wisconsin, I am sure the AWD is an important factor for you.
In 04 they did away with the viscous coupling in the transfer case. This
made for AWD that isn't really. The option you want to look for in 04 and
newer is DSC. This uses the ABS to brake a spinning wheel. Look at the
console beside the shifter. if there is a button there instead of a little coin
tray, it has DSC.

If it has a known service history I wouldn't be too concerned about the 98K mileage. The longer they got in the production life of the X the more reliable they seem to be. Make sure you check that it wasn't involved in an accident. Not necessarily a deal breaker in my mind depending on what was damaged.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the mismatched tires as long as it drives well with no vibrations or pulling. However, it could be a sign that the lower rear control arms need to be replaced. If the tops of the rear tires are canted in that is a sure sign. Easy enough to replace though.

For $7K vs. $14K you have a lot of buffer on any repairs you might have to make if the cars are equipped pretty much the same. You are in a good position in that you already have experience with the X-Type. All things being equal I think the 98K car is the way to go.

Alfadude- Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it. I ran a carfax, got a clean report and am going to make the purchase of the 2006 w/98k. I've done some research on the lower control arms on my 03 because of unveven tire wear and it looks like a fairly easy fix.

Thanks, again.
