Default X Type starting problems

Hi,
My 04 x type 2.0L diesel starts ok sometimes but not on the button, then sits a idle 600rpm for 5 to 20 seconds then kicks in. Sometimes it doesn't start first time and would seem like only one cylinder is firing or trying to fire then it manages to grunt in too life. Once going no problem, cruises lovely. The garage I bought it from have had it on the diagnostics, no joy or codes. I've put redex in for diesels and as I say runs good. I've also put better fuel in that seems to help. I had a previous one that had 250K on the clock and started on the button every time. I've seen some threads that say a software upgrade may be needed. Any advice would be greatly received. Thanks

When's last time you changed the fuel filter? The only other thing I could suggest (I've never owned a diesel) is to remove the fuel injectors and have them cleaned and tested.

Hi your injectors may need recoding,
I like BG244 for fuel problems. £20 from Kwik fit or internet.
