Default X-Type trip switches & display

Hi folks - I am newbie here and having fun reading through lots of useful and informative info and now have my first question.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a 2006 2.0D S X-Type and I'm really enjoying it. However, whilst getting to grips with its various features I noticed that the three trip switches in the lighting switch-pack do not seem to do anything.

My instrument panel doesn't have the message centre just the trip and main odometer and so I was wondering whether this means the trip functions aren't available (?) Perhaps a replacement switch pack was installed ... or instrument panel as I have noticed two very small marks at the top of the wooden trim surround to the instrument panel so it's possible I guess.

Can anyone shed any light on whether I should be able to display trip data with the basic instrument panel ?

I haven't removed the switch-pack yet to check if it is fully wired.

All the best

Jim

This document (starting on page 11) explains the trip computer. It's a section from the owners manual.

Thanks Craig,

I've followed the manual but with no joy, so I'm wondering if the switches aren't connected or maybe the instrument panel doesn't support the trip features.

Cheers

Do you get anything with pressing the button on the left stalk?

Hi Santer - only if I hold the button on the stalk down - which zeros the trip

Cheers

I've read on another forum that an instrument panel with message centre is needed - so wondering if my instruments were changed and if so wondering why - perhaps it was reporting errors ...
