Default X-Type Trouble...Please help!!

Hi Folks

So i just bought my first X-type Deisel 2005 on Saturday. It's done 65k miles and seems very clean.

Only issue is upon switching on the ignition i get a long 10 second beep/alarm sounding. Is this normal? It then allows me to start the car and it seems to drive fine with no warning lights.

The rear parking sensors are not working.

Quite concerned and really hoping i havent blown all my cash on a lemon.

Please can anyone give me any advice on this?

Cheers

Jonny

Many/most members on this forum are in the USA
I do not think diesels were sold in the USA so you might get more answers in the UK forum.

For non diesel questions do come back as you will get really good advice here

The long beep could be the fact that the rear parking sensors are not working.

Is it an Auto? If so it could also be the micro switch for the selector.

If it drives fine with no warning lights then it's going to be something simple

I have a 2003 (60K miles) and 2007 (30K miles) x-type. Put 50K miles on a 2002 and traded it off on 07. Non of these had an alarm or sound when turning on key.

The back up alarm on the 02 worked when I got it at 80K miles but they stopped working at some point. I did not look into why?

just re read message and noticed it is a diesel. Diesels normally have a wait for glow plug or similiar device to heat up combustion chamber so fuel burns when you want to start it. I would say the alarm is normal and the waiting time required before you start. The waiting time may get a bit longer in winter pending where you live.

Considering 10-second glow plug delay don't use the car for bank robbery.

Default X-type Beep

Hi, I have a X-type 2004, I also have the beep when I first turn on my car, I am pretty sure it is the parking sensors. I am trying to figure out how to take them of and clean them. Mine worked fine until a few months ago, and when they stopped working, the beep starting happening when I first turned the car on. So I read somewhere else someone had the same problem and the just cleaned all the sensors and then it went right! I am now trying to figure out how to take of the sensors to give them a clean as from looking under the back the two outer sensors are a bit exposed to the elements.

I hope that helps.

Used to have a diesel P/U truck; 5-10 sec wait while glow plugs warmed. Would do this warm up always - even after driving xxx miles then shutting it off - still had to wait 5-10 secs then could start...
