X-Type Workshop Manual - Caution
Yes, just a word of caution if you should come across websites offering thesedownloadable electronic workshop manuals. I've fell for this twice now only tofind upon opening the downloaded file a copy ofthe Jaguar (JTIS). This particular website charged£10 for this downloadand the upsell suggested they were offeringa completeDIY workshop manual. Although I believe Haynes don't do a workshop manual for the X yet, I was expecting something similar. I have emailed the supplier but received no response to date - Not impressed...
Like I say, for those that remember the old Haynes manuals even the most reluctant DIYer could have a go atmany of the repairs etc following explicit instructions, excellent pictures and practical tips. On the other hand I think the JTIS is best suited as a reference for perhaps Jaguar trained mechanics. If for example a part has to be removed in order to gain access to a faulty part, the information is very limited and does not explain in any great detail. For example check out the section on replacing brake rotors / pads! (You may, of course, disagree)...

A useful link.. thanks ... but again, must say this does not provide the same level of hands-on information that a good workshop manual should provide. I'll keepsearching and let you all know if I discover something better....
You are right Kenzed the JTIS is for Jag techs at the dealerships, etc.
I contacted Haynes shortly after getting my X Type and if I rememberthey said they have no plans to introduce a manual for the X type as they have to wait until it is a certain age before Jaguar will allow them to bring one out.

here is what is on my JTIS CD for just the front brake pads. I cant imagine a more thorough instruction, and there are 6 pictures to go along with it. I am curious if you have a different disc than I do.
FROM JTIS

Pivot the brake caliper upwards.Remove and discard the brake caliper lower retaining bolt.

Push the piston into the housing.
Install the brake pads.

Yep.........you pretty much got it there kenzed

Some things in the JTIS (like brakes) are well described but there are still jobs that the JTIS doesnt go into great detail because it assumes you already would have more knowledge than some DIYers..
Obviously not as good as the Haines manuals then Buck?
They used to treat you like you were a beginner with good write ups and plenty of pics.....the mutts nutts they really were.

BuckMR2,
Thanks for your support - You've summed it all up...
Very often and particularly with cars these days, it is not always obvious how to go about gaining access to a specific part and it's not until after the job that you realise you could have done things a lot easier with a little help!
The Haines provided anyone who wished to 'have a go' with the confidence to get the spanners out and save a few bucks/quid (Ā£'s).
I vote Haines make a X-Type manual as soon as possible so we can all get back to some old fashioned values, that is...pulling things apart on a Sunday morning while the wife cooks the dinner
