Default 2020 XE p300

I just got my new Jag last week. To say I love it is an understatement. It flies like a plane. Portofino blue, which everyone comments on. Still learning obviously, but I am really impressed and pumped.

I pulled up beside a brand new 750I the other day and thought nope, I wouldn’t trade you right now.

Congratulations, and welcome to the forum.
Very nice colour - I have a 35T in the same shade.

Thank you very much. The 35T is the SUV I think. I never really checked them out because I’ve been driving an Infiniti EX35 for eight years and I wanted a sedan this time. I’m sure it’s a great machine. I believe the XE borrowed some technology from the F Pace this year. Congrats on not joining the sea of Mercedes, BMWs and Cayennes!

The 35T is the XE with the 3.0 liter V6 with supercharger. I guess 35 means 3.0 and T stands for supercharger. British logic.

Oh I see. That was the engine I wanted but not available for 2020. I considered the XF to get it, but it was 10k more and not as sporty as the XE.

Yeah, just to confuse it some more, the 20T and the 25T were both the ecoboost 4 potter turbos with about 150Kw and 177Kw respectively and here in Australia the XE S was the 6 cylinder supercharged version with 250Kw which was called the 35T in the US, then the igenium engines came out and kept a 20T, a 25T (now with about 185Kw), a 30T (the p300 engine) and then the S was the 280Kw 6 supercharged. The p300 behaves very similarly to the 250Kw version of the 6, IMO, you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart save for engine note. Zero lag, and still good pickup over 100kph.

Default Let's discuss the 4 cyl engines now.

What is the difference between the ecoboost and the new Ingenium 4cyls? What model year was the change made on the XE?

I dont know what mechanical differences there are, but there was a power increase in the 25T of about 5Kw. The 221Kw version (30T or p300) uses a twin turbo and there wasnt an ecoboost version of the 300hp engine as that was really the space of the 250kw 6. The Igenium is supposed to be a lot lighter and more fuel efficient.

I think the diesels were using it from commencement of the XE but the petrols ran the ecoboost engines for about a year or two before getting the igenium engine in the 20T and 25T in about 2017, and I think the 30T in 2018 (Australia) though I've never seen one on the road.

It is hard to tell the difference driving the cars because transmission has so much to do with power delivery - I found the 25T ecoboost that we had in the first XE a bit surgey and I've had loaners of 25T igeniums which were much more direct. Whether that is an engine characteristic or a transmission one I dont know.

If you are looking at the engine bay, the Igenium engine has the dipstick off to one side whereas the Ecoboost has it right in the middle. That's about the sum of my mechanical knowledge!

2018 was the first year in the States for the Ingenium I-4. The only spec difference between the EcoBoost and Ingenium that I recall is that the Ingenium is rated a couple mpg better. Seems to be a fine engine to me.

What about a hood ornament? I’m thinking seriously about having one installed.

I don’t want to sound crazy, but from an esthetic point of view, a leaping jaguar... You guys must have considered it. When was the hood ornament discontinued?

I've seen a few people try it, apparently it is banned in some places due to pedestrian safety issues. It didnt look amazing on any of the ones I have seen, getting the right proportion would be hard.

The girl got some rain today. I pushed them on the ceramic finish so I hope it cured okay. I want to run it through the nice and shiny, but the brushes are putting me off.
