Default AJ V6 Engine

The June issue of Car&Driver has a brief article on the current AJ V6 engine. Found it interesting, the engine has a split crank shaft (i.e., the connecting rod journals are slightly displaced) to address the imbalance of a 90 degree V6. Doesn't seem to require balance shafts.

Bore and stroke are different from the V8 which surprised me since I though part of the reason for the V8-2 was to share components. Guess not...

From the exterior, the V8 and V6 blocks are identical, both in appearance and dimensions but the internal casting of each is entirely different. The idea was to make it simple to mount either a V6 or V8 in any model, which does allow the sharing of other ancillary components.

I didn't want to wait for the Inline 6, so I went ahead with the V-6 ... Once I try the Inline 6 in a year or so when its out, I may trade V-6 for it.
Lawrence.
