Engine cover on V6
So, last night I hooked up my CTEK to check the battery and give it a top-up.
Poking around under the hood. I discovered that the engine (v6) cover just flips up with, I guess, only a fastener at the rear. (Didn't take it off fully)
Does this sound normal? I expected the front to be clipped somehow.
Could any member confirm if this normal?
Thanks in advance

The v6 cover sits on some studs and just slides off. A lot of F Type owners (myself included) have taken off the covers which are only there for aesthetics, because it is a pretty unimpressive looking engine.
Removing the cover supposedly reduces heat in the engine bay, also you hear the engine a little more.

keith100,
I thought the same thing until it came back from a service one time and it was more firmly in place. Put your hands over the "UA" area of the JAGUAR lettering on both sides of the cover and give it a good push down. You should find then it doesn't just flip up and is clipped in place with some resistance.

Thanks Steve
I didn't think it should be that loose, At the back as well, upon further investigation.
So I took it to the dealer. It turns out the tech who serviced it 2 weeks ago simply laid the cover on top of the motor after removing it and then forgot to fix it properly,
All is well now. I just hope he didn't forget anything else

Yes, when the "tech" can forget such a simple thing as securing the engine cover, you do have to wonder what else they can forget. A classic one is to forget (or even just neglect) to put all the securings back into the undershield under the engine, so it flaps about when driving. On the XE the undershield has 20 odd bolts and 2 plastic rivets to secure it, so you can sort of understand why garage techs don't bother to put them all back in.
A worse omission that I have heard about is forgetting to refill the engine with oil after draining the old out and replacing the filter. This is often because the oil is drained with the car on a ramp and the oil cannot easily be refilled until the car is back on the ground - which can be quite a bit later - and by then the tech has been distracted by another job. When the engine subsequently siezes the service manager's explanation is that "it's been filled with the wrong oil sir".

It was a good job the pliers weren't left in a higher position so they put a dent in the hood/bonnet as the tech slammed it shut. No doubt the garage would then claim the dent was there before you brought the car in to them!
You right. I've done that before on one of my bimmers. The hood was near impossible to open because there was so much pressure on the hood.
