Noise at Idle
Hi Folks,
Not even sure how to describe what you’re hearing but this noise is something I hear often at idle. Got the car July 2023 at 28K miles and it now has 57K miles. You can hear this noise if you’re standing outside, inside the cabin and especially through the exhaust pipes. Nothing major has gone wrong but my extended warranty is still current at the highest tier level they offer. I am well aware of the dreaded coolant leaks & SC coupler failures. My car is a 2018 XE-S build date 6/2017 Supercharged V6. I took a video so you all can maybe help put a name to this noise. The 60K dealer service will be scheduled after the holidays. Thanks for your input.

I have a 2017 XE R-Sport that I bought new and it's had, as best as I can describe it, the "cylon warble" for as long as I can remember once it settles into a steady idle. If you don't remember Battlestar Galactica and the Cylons here's the sound it reminds me of:
. Your post has got me inquisitive though to try and track the source of the sound down, but to me it's not one of those concerning sounds and I'm at 85K.
Coolant leaks - that's another story but I've just installed the metal Euro-Amp set (rear heater pipe, y-pipe, thermostat housing and water pump to oil cooler). I'm really hoping my days of smelling coolant after driving are going away!
Would love to hear if your dealer can shed any light on the sound when you take it in for the service.

**UPDATE*
Dropped off the car at JLR this morning. They gave me a 2024 Discover Sport Dynamic SE in Eiger Gray with 14 miles on it as a loaner. Ehhhhhh. Anyways, I had their technician come out to the service port to look at my car & I showed him the video I posted here and his response was "that sounds normal..." I'm not sure how normal that is but again I hear it sometimes when the car idles. He did agree that there is a slight rattle which he said is most def the supercharger coupler so they will be replacing that. Moving on, my advisor ran my VIN in their database and the previous owner did in fact get the water pump and coolant pipes replaced in the fall of 2021. I can not begin to tell you how RELEIVED I felt when he told me this. I will reply to this thread for those who requested updates as the service journey continues.
