Default Paddle Shifter Extensions/Larger Paddles for Jaguar XE

Hi Guys,

Putting this out there to gauge interest. We're looking at making some larger shift paddles for the current model Jags. At the moment we are planning on machined & brushed aluminum, possibly offering a powder coating option as well.

Would probably be IRO $250/set, direct fit replacement for the OEM paddles and made in the exact style as OEM so they don't look aftermarket, more like an OEM upgrade.

What does everyone think? If there's enough interest we'll probably do a group buy/pre buy once they are signed off. Images below were printed in Plastic, but production parts would be aluminum.

It's something we are looking at. I'm sure we could do powder coating, question is whether it's economical to try and colour match all sorts of things, or just offer 2 or 3 and coat them in batches.

Stuart,

I would be interested, but I am not sure about the larger size.

I recommend against powder coating. I own a powder coating shop and the problem with powder coating is the dimensional changes (you are going to need a lot of masking), and wear of the powder coating. I think you would be much better off anodizing the paddles.

Anodize is much harder than powder coatings and has much less dimensional affect on the parts. A good anodizer will offer several colors (black, clear, red, blue, maybe green, gold, etc.).

I already have the (very bad) habit of controlling the steering wheel with the top of my knee in low speed situations...which already results in occasional unwanted paddle shifts during turns with the smaller shifters. I'd probably be interested in same size replacements only, if they were available.
I'm probably in the minority though....

Default I'm cheap

I'm not trying to be debbie Downer here but I love this item and idea but $250? What am I missing here? I would pay like $60 at most unless you are using material made from the space program at nasa? Any idea what shade of green, I would be trying match emerald fire metallic. Thanks

This is something a couple of owners brought to us, we have discussed with our machining contractor and the price is what we can sell them for, at a reasonable profit. In order to produce them in a nice aluminum with a high quality finishing process it's not exactly cheap, especially if you want them to fit nicely.

If people aren't interested in paying that kind of price we simply won't make them. No harm, no foul. That's why we are canvassing opinion.

To be perfectly honest, with how busy we are, this isn't a high priority for us but we are trying to respond to what our customers are asking for and bring solutions to market.

These are actually a fairly intricate part, and achieving a good finishing process and surface quality adds cost as well.

i looked into the aluminum ones from jaguar directly and those were 600 from the dealer, with a list price of 800. obviously there is a huge markup from jaguar, but 250 is looking pretty good in comparison, especially for the larger size

The non-aluminum OEM paddles light up. Would be nice if that could be replicated, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

For an inexpensive, quality alternative from China (I know, that's an oxymoron), see my old thread from the X150 Forum:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...nsions-192624/

It's hard to see, but the paddles extend below the steering wheel and can be pressed from either above or below. Also, the paddles are cast aluminum with a small pebble grain finish front and back that feels nice to the touch. I like this design because it conforms to the arc of the steering wheel and looks OEM. They far exceeded my expectations, particularly at a cost of under $30 delivered. I have no affiliation with the seller.

I think an aluminum colored aluminum one would be awesome but $250 is too much for me. I get it though, demand isn't high enough for it to be much cheaper.

Samples are in. Very happy with the way the finish turned out. We'll be test-fitting these and should go into production soon.

These ones fitted and worked, but we wanted to adjust the clearance to the switch by a 100 thou or so, to make the shift action perfect. Second samples arrived with our test-fitter today. Hopefully this weekend!

We'll be offering either silver or black anodized, or bare aluminum if you prefer that.

If anyone desires custom finishes that is something you could probably arrange to have painted to colour match your car locally.

Okay, these are successfully test-fitted. Live on the website and available on pre-order with a $50 discount until the 20th. Use coupon code JAGPADDLES at checkout. There will be two versions offered - either Silver or Black. If you'd like a color matched or custom painted version we'd recommend doing that locally where a body shop can match the colour to your car.

Ship date is estimated at August 1st.
